This time around we'll be showing The King's Speech, this year's crowned Academy Award winner, the movie that managed to sweep 4 of the 5 major Academy Awards - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Screenplay.
It tells the story of George VI (Firth), who took up the crown at one of the most critical moments in British history - just before World War II. A King rather by chance than choice, George VI had a dreadful speech impediment that prevented him from giving out public speeches, a crucial function afor any ruler. The only beam of light comes from the unorthodox speech therapist Lionel Logue (Rush).
The King's Speech is a kind of movie we rarely see these days, a historical piece combining light-hearted comedy with heart-breaking drama and wrapping it up with tight direction and wonderful performances by some of the best British actors living today.
